Operational trials of Oceanic Clearance Delivery (OCD) in the Santa Maria Oceanic Control Area (OCA) are planned to commence on 1st of August, 2007.

ORCA (Shanwick)

(Oceanic Route Clearance Authorisation)

Shanwick Oceanic provides the delivery of oceanic clearances by data link in accordance with the EUROCAE ED106 standard.  Guidance for users can be downloaded from the link below.

 

Operators should note that, prior to making use of the system, the airline details must be included  in the system configuration.  In order to facilitate this, operators should provide the appropriate details to the contact address specified in the Guidance document.

Datalink Trials

FANS1/A ADS WPR :

ADS  trials are now complete in NAT airspaceand is operational in NAT ADS airspace.

 FANS1/A  CPDLC:

Phases 1 & 2 CPDLC Operational trials were commenced by NavCanada (Gander) and UK NATS (Shanwick) in Autumn 2002 and Phase 3 commenced in December 2003. Iceland (Reykjavik) and commenced Phase 1& 2 operational trials in 2005. Portugal (Santa Maria) commenced Phase 3 operational trials in the last quarter of 2006.  A fully operational CPDLC service is in operation in the New York FIR.

FMC WPR:

Some aircraft are equipped with systems (PIP and Pegasus) that enable non-ADS datalink position reports to be made from the aircraft's Flight Management Computer.  Although designed for aircraft operators' use rather than for ATC purposes, it has been recognised that it could be of benefit to ATC.   Operational FMC Waypoint Reporting trials have been completed and FMC  WPR is now operational in participating OCAs.
