It should be possible to download and read the online
documentation without any problems. If you experience problems
then we suggest you try these possible solutions. If after that,
you are still having problems, please send a mail to the Download
Manager with details, including the date and time of the
problem, and the title of the document you are having problems
with and we will investigate the matter.
Browsers are not the best tools for FTP downloads, so if you
have access to a separate ftp client it is worth downloading the
files directly from our FTP site www.nuntius.co.uknat/. Log in as
'anonymous' with your e-mail address as the password. All the
documents are online at this location. our ftp servers supports
'resume' mode and the Mac binary format. Not only will an FTP
client be more reliable, it will also usually be faster.
Most documents are available in a number of formats. The most
transportable format is the Acrobat Portable Document Format (pdf). Most browsers have a PDF plug-in, but the standalone
readers for a wide range of workstation platforms and languages
are available for free download from the Adobe
site. Browser plug-ins are available from the respective
manufactures web site. We are currently working on making all
documents available online in the PDF format.
If you are downloading via a Browser, then it is important that
the 'helper' applications are correctly mapped. This enables the
Browser to pass the downloaded document to the correct application
for processing once they are downloaded. Each version of the
browser is set up differently, but the details are usually in the
Preferences menu under applications or helpers.
When downloading via a Browser you can either 'view' the file
online or save it to a location. You set these options on an
application by application basis. Your need to select the option
for each 'File Helper' or 'applications'. Once set all downloads
of the specified file type will be treated in the same way.
NOTE: If you are using Netscape Navigator 4.5 to
download, you should be aware that for some file types you will
need to perform a further 'decode' activity before the files can
be opened with the appropriate helper. This is because Netscape
downloads files (from Servers that support the option) in the .bin
format but does not automatically decode the file. To further
complicate it, the .bin extension not present, so it's not clear
that the file needs further decoding. If you must use the
Navigator 4.5 then try to use .zip files, as most ZIP decoders
also support the .bin file type. Alternatively, for other file
types you can obtain a 'decoder' (dropStuff/Stuffit Expander )
from the Aladdin Systems
web site. Once you have downloaded the file, drop in onto the
decoder and you will be able to read it with the appropriate
application. It is understood that this problem should be resolved
in the 4.5.1. PDF and other non Binary files will not need to
go through this extra stage.
Finally: If you are still experiencing problems, then
mail the details to Download
Manager and we will investigate the matter.
