The North Atlantic Central Monitoring Agency (NAT CMA) is run by National Air Traffic Services Ltd on behalf of ICAO. It is non-profit making and employs one full-time professional plus part time administrative and data analysis support.

Its major functions are to:

monitor all aspects of horizontal and vertical navigation performance in the NAT, including technical height keeping performance;
monitor aircraft approval status to help keep unapproved operations in NAT MNPS/RVSM airspace to an acceptable minimum, and;
carry out risk assessments and make recommendations to ICAO through the NAT SPG to improve safety.

To date, the NAT CMA has played a major role in ensuring continued safe operations in the NAT and has been a key player in the successful introduction of RVSM by acting as the keeper of the RVSM approvals database and providing the requisite monitoring infrastructure.
